App and voice

Android and Alexa

Nettu reads the same calendar on your phone and on Alexa. Below is how to use it on Android, and what to say to the speaker.

Android

The phone app

Download Nettu from Google Play, pick the town and see what to put out. No account needed.

  1. Open the app and pick the town. If collection changes by zone, pick the zone too.
  2. Today shows what to put out tonight. The calendar shows the month for the town you chose.
  3. The guide explains the bins. In Porto Torres there is also a dictionary, to search for one item.
  4. The evening-before alert is a notification on the phone, at the time you choose. It is usually 9pm and it stays on the device.

The same app is on iPhone. There, as well as the notification, the reminder can also appear on the Lock Screen.

Alexa

Ask out loud

The skill is called Nettu and it speaks Italian. To open it, say “nettu sardegna”: “nettu” alone is too short and Alexa will not recognise it.

  1. Say “Alexa, apri nettu sardegna”.
  2. The first time, name the town, for example Porto Torres. If that town’s calendar changes by zone, Alexa asks which one.
  3. The next time you open it, Alexa says what is collected tomorrow. You can ask for today, the day after tomorrow, a weekday or a date, for example 3 October.
  4. To switch town, say “cambia comune”.

Phrases that work

  • Alexa, apri nettu sardegna
  • Alexa, chiedi a nettu sardegna cosa butto domani
  • Alexa, chiedi a nettu sardegna cosa butto mercoledì
  • Alexa, chiedi a nettu sardegna cosa butto oggi

“Alexa, cosa butto domani”, without the skill name, does not open Nettu. In the Alexa app you can make a Routine for that phrase and, as the action, have it tell Nettu “cosa butto domani”.

It remembers only the town and, if needed, the zone, tied to the Amazon account you speak with. It does not ask for your name, email or phone number.
